Art & Design

Choose a subject

The purpose of our Art & Design curriculum is to allow students to develop a keen interest of a subject that is both intellectually engaging and creatively demanding, our mission being to make this appreciation for the arts accessible for all. We aim to achieve this through a progressive curriculum which celebrates the importance of inclusivity and representation through a wide diversity of artists, movements and cultures, exploring how these evolve over time.

Our long-term curriculum is structured so that key artistic skills, materials, processes and techniques are embedded and sequentially built upon throughout KS3 providing students with a strong foundation to build upon. These skills are taught through a combination of practical activities in a broad range of art mediums, such as drawing, painting, textiles and three-dimensional design, in conjunction with theoretical studies, the goal being to nurture creativity, critical thinking and a well-rounded understanding of the visual arts.

We are aware that art education contributes to the development of well-rounded individuals by allowing them to hone fundamental life skills that go beyond the classroom. We encourage our students to explore and expand their analytical and problem-solving skills, to take risks and approach challenges with tenacity and innovative solutions. We ensure students feel comfortable to challenge preconceived ideas, form their own opinions and be able to effectively communicate these through their work. Our intent is to cultivate creativity, broaden perspectives and enrich individual characters.
