French

French as a whole still very much retains its prestige, its aura of luxury goods and an air of je-ne-sais-quoi! One of the United Nations’ official languages, it is the language of diplomacy.  There are over 200 million people who speak French across 55 countries and 5 continents, which makes French the third most used language online!  Whichever career path you choose (engineering, aviation, energy, medical, sciences, sports, law, business studies, art, music, fashion, architecture…) you may well be speaking French.

With four lessons a fortnight and the same across KS3, you will listen, speak, read and write in French and grammar will help you understand the mechanics of languages. Interactive whiteboards, French apps, laptops and fantastic library resources help make our lessons memorable and fun.

Sight-seeing on their exchange to Geneva

In Year 9 we offer a week’s exchange to Geneva with our partner school. It is a fantastic opportunity to make long-lasting friendships, to see how French is used in real life and this may help you decide on which languages to study further at GCSE.

French is a popular subject at GCSE and at A Level.  We follow the AQA syllabus and have excellent exam results.  We are lucky to have two native speakers in the French team who help our students understand cultural differences and provide expert knowledge, which is critical at GCSE but especially at A Level.  Typically, our French students move on to either Oxford or Cambridge or attend Russell Group universities.
