Climate Change Poem
This is our Earth, the planet we're killing
But this planet, the earth, is very forgiving
It still lets us live here, it still lets us breathe
But we pollute the air and kill the trees
We fill land and ocean with plastic and scrap
All of this rubbish is an animal's trap
They eat it and swallow it, thinking it’s food
Swim in it and get stuck and then cannot move
Think of the animals, water and land
Swimming the waves and walking on sand
Birds and butterflies, flying up high
Constantly hoping that they will not die
These creatures are passing because of our waste
These are the issues that we need to face
People are helping by cleaning the coastline
Picking up litter while enjoying the sunshine
Climate change, climate change, that’s all we ever hear
But if we just do nothing then the end could soon be near
Anyone could make a difference to this mess
So, let's take our loyalty and put it to the test
We all need to join forces somehow
It’s time to protect our planet now!

The Religious Studies department is very pleased to announced that Sonal Gopisetti in Year 10 has been awarded runner-up in the essay competition run by the Theology and Religion Department at Exeter University. This is especially impressive as it was a national competition, and she was competing against students older than herself (up to and including A Level students!). Her essay was a very well written response to the question. “Would the world be a better place without religion?" Sonal will be receiving her prize of a university hoodie very soon and once it arrives we will celebrate with her by posting a picture of her wearing it.
Well done Sonal Great work!
Year 8 Jelly Fish
Year 8 have been producing large scale oil pastel jellyfish studies exploring colouring and shape.
Year 12 Art – Self Portraits
International Museums Day is coming up on May 18, and, with the imminent reopening of the various museums around our county, it seems like a good opportunity to showcase a number of History resources, both fiction and non-fiction, available via the LRC. These can all be borrowed via Click and Collect, count towards the DRHS Reading Marathon Challenge, and may be logged on the Gloucestershire Reads website, benefitting both children who are having to stay in hospital and those whose families use food banks. Take a look here: https://readforgood.org/read-glos-events/. We also take Modern History Review (A Level) and Hindsight (GCSE) magazines, which provide essential information to enrich students’ learning.
Of course, Gloucestershire is blessed with not only a county museum system, but also other museums and historical properties in interesting locations, some with grounds which allow for social distancing:

I’ve extended the deadline for our Scholastic Book Club orders to Friday 21 May. Please take a look here: https://shop.scholastic.co.uk/schools/denmark-road. The LRC receives vouchers to the value of 20% of orders, and this helps to enrich the reading materials available to our students – thank you so much for your support.
If your son or daughter is in Year 11 or Year 13, please remind them to return all their textbooks and library books and leave them in the return bags in the LRC, so that they can be processed off their accounts and back on to the school system. If students bring them back gradually as they finish each assessment, it means they don’t have to carry a heavy bag of books in on their last day. Prompt return of books will ensure that Sixth Form book deposits can be processed and refunded in good time. Ideally all resources should be returned by half term, Friday May 28. Students can of course ask me for lists of what they have borrowed if they are unsure of what they should have. Thank you for your help!
Please remind your daughter or son that if they need some assistance with finding a new book to read, or with researching information, please have them contact me, as I am always happy to assist.

Please may I remind all parents and carers of the need to park both safely and considerately around the school site. We are located in a busy residential area where a large number of our neighbours walk younger children to and from our surrounding primary schools. Please ensure you do not park where road markings state you must not, on road junctions, or in front of private driveways. Thank you for your consideration.

A large number of items are lost each week within school. Please encourage your daughter/son to look after their own property (and seek to locate it rather than just buy a new one!) Whilst staff will make every effort to return named items to students it is the responsibility of all students to care for their possessions and seek to locate lost items. Students’ property is brought into school at their own risk. Please also make sure all PE kit is labelled, including the bag. Trainers should be predominately white with no Velcro and no black trainers please.
