Ski trip to Austria
During the February mid-term break a group of 38 Year 8–11 students accompanied by five staff headed to the Austrian Alps for the annual ski trip.
After a rather long coach journey the girls settled in very quickly to our accommodation for the week. The first day saw the Austrian instructors sort the girls into four ski groups. For the first couple of days the beginner skiers worked hard to develop control and a good ski position to enable them to tackle more challenging slopes up the mountain. Meanwhile the intermediates were working hard to develop control in their turns and the advanced group were developing their technique when skiing down some challenging slopes.
Unfortunately the weather for the first couple of days was a little foggy and snowy which made conditions challenging at times, however all groups skied on with purpose and determination. As the week progressed the weather improved and we were all treated to some fantastic views; particularly from the top of the mountain. All groups made tremendous progress throughout the week with the beginners showing good control in their turns and increasing speed. The advanced and intermediate groups also had the chance to experience a ski race against each other and it was great to see some very competitive performances. In the evening the group also enjoyed a variety of après ski. The group had a lovely evening ten pin bowling, fun splashing around in the heated outdoor swimming pool and tube slides, alongside the hotly contested quiz evening! All students and staff had a fantastic week making new friends and great progress on the slopes.
