Discover Realise Honour Shape

Transition Challenges

Welcome to the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Denmark Road High School!

The LRC is the hub for everything to do with reading at DRHS, providing a wide range of books, both fiction and non-fiction, along with journals and online resources for further study.  For Years 7 and 8 I organise a House Reading Competition, visit our weekly Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) tutor times and am invited into English lessons to listen to book reviews being presented, to lend books and to answer questions about authors, books and series.  I produce book posters of new books and seasonal themes to encourage students to try something new and I'm always happy to add books recommended by students to the prospective purchase list!  Students here have an amazing opportunity to experiment with their reading - and of course I always encourage students (and their families!) to join their local library system to take full advantage of the books, audiobooks, e-books and e-audiobooks available there.

Reading is a very personal taste, but if you have run out of ideas for what to read next, please take a look at the attached list of titles available from Gloucestershire Libraries in various formats.  If you have a library card, you can reserve the books from here:  If you aren't a member, you will find a link on that page to join online.

Here are links to other library systems in our surrounding counties:

Bristol Libraries: (includes: Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, Dorset, North Somerset, Poole, Somerset and South Gloucestershire libraries)

Swindon Libraries:

Worcestershire Libraries:

Herefordshire Libraries:

Monmouthshire Libraries:

These are suggestions only, not a prescriptive list, and of course, other authors and titles are available.  All children are different and enjoy different things.  The main requirement is to enjoy reading!

I look forward to meeting you all very soon and welcoming you to our fantastic Library!
