Denmark Road High School is proud to offer a wide selection of A Levels as part of its curriculum offer.
We will speak to you to discuss your bespoke pathway, but as a guide:
All students who achieve at least 7 GCSEs at grades 9-7 are eligible to study 4 A Levels.
All students who achieve at least 6 GCSEs at grades 9-6 are eligible to study 3 A Levels.
All students may also take the EPQ and/or an AS Level in Mathematics, French, German, Spanish or Art. It is recommended that most students on 3 A Level pathway take advantage of at least one of these additional qualifications.
All students will also take part in our DISCOVER curriculum where, for example, each week they will undertake regular work experience.
It is an impressive curriculum offer, similar in principle to the International Baccalaureate (IB) where students are encouraged to maintain breadth and depth of study Post 16. Our curriculum will give students the knowledge and skills to be the leaders of the future.
All students have timetabled lessons, and an additional assessment lesson for each subject, and ‘free’ study periods each week, with the exact construction of their timetable depending on the different choice of subjects they have made. We expect our students to become independent learners during their time in the Sixth Form, and, with our support and guidance, to achieve a seamless transition from GCSE to A Level and beyond. If a student does struggle to manage the transition from GCSE to A Level study themselves, additional support is given by the Sixth Form team to enable them to take on this responsibility themselves.
For details about each subject please see the attachments on this page. Or click here to listen to current students explain why they chose their subjects.
