Music and Performing Arts
Students have many opportunities at Denmark Road High School to take part in a range of different musical activities and concerts.
The Senior Orchestra has a full range of orchestral instruments. The Concert Band provides wind and brass players the opportunity to play a wide range of music from many styles. The Jazz Band has the more traditional jazz instruments (saxophones and trumpets) and even includes flutes and bassoons! There are two large choirs, Senior and Junior Choir, who sing a range of traditional and modern vocal music. A Flute Choir and String Ensemble also rehearse weekly and provide another ensemble for students wanting to progress their skill in a particular area.
Many students at the school learn a musical instrument and the school provides tuition for a wide range of instruments, either as individual or paired lessons.
The department organises a wide range of concerts during the year. Gloucester Cathedral is the setting for our Annual Charity Concert. The choirs also get the chance to sing in two school services in the cathedral.

There are informal concerts, where students can perform solos, duets or even their own arrangements or compositions in a supportive atmosphere. In addition, the school also supports the G15 concerts in Gloucester Cathedral and has worked with students from Milestones School in preparing a joint performance, as well as several other charity concerts at Christmas. We take chamber groups and regularly perform in the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts in May.
