GCSE Results Success

Year 11 students and staff at Denmark Road High School are celebrating excellent results today with 25% of all grades achieving grade 9.  Over 75% of all entries were graded at 9-7.   The fantastic performance of the students was highlighted by half of all students averaging at least grade 8 across all their subjects.  22 students achieved at least nine grade 9s.

Kitty Beach-Hicks achieved all grade 9s with one grade 8: “I felt a bit nervous last night but felt better this morning. I’m very surprised with my results but also really happy and I’m looking forward to Denmark Road Sixth Form next year.”

Khadeeja Wasi said “I looked at the grade boundaries this morning and I was so worried that I wasn’t going to do as hoped. I’m over the moon - I wasn’t expecting to get the results I got!”  Khadeeja achieved eleven grade 9s.

Zafeera Karim is also joining Denmark Road Sixth Form next year: “I feel really relaxed today and the atmosphere has been better than I expected for results day. DRHS has been a great school for me and I can’t wait to start Sixth Form”.  Lis Johnson (also pictured) achieved nine grade 9s. “I feel better than I thought I would and I am so happy with my results.”

Florence Hampton said “I felt really nervous last night and didn’t sleep very well. I also checked the grade boundaries this morning and they seemed really high! I’m really overwhelmed and happy with my results.” Florence achieved seven grade 9s and 3 grade 8s.  Twins Anna & Naomi Dickens said “We both felt excited last night and we were looking forward to today. We are both relieved this morning and it turned out we had nothing to worry about.”

Headteacher Claire Giblin said “Our Year 11 students have performed fantastically and achieved individual outcomes to be proud of in this year’s examinations. It is testament to both the students’ hard work and the quality of teaching that we have seen such fantastic progress being made by the entire year group. They have demonstrated the importance of commitment and application in everything they do. We are all immensely proud.”

The GCSE success follows last week’s excellent A Level results.  Assistant Headteacher: Progress and Achievement, Tom Mannion said “It has been a privilege to work with this year group who have achieved such fantastic results.  There is a strong community ethos at the Denmark Road, and this has been demonstrated in how closely Year 11 have worked with our dedicated staff and the support they have provided each other. They have contributed hugely to the school and local community and very much deserve their success.  Congratulations!”
