Former Headteacher Elizabeth Miles, Birthday Celebration, Year 13 Final Assembly, Year 11 THorpe Park and Sports Review Evening
Former Headteacher of High School for Girls – Elizabeth Miles
It is with great sadness that I wish to inform you about the death of Elizabeth Miles, Headteacher at High School for Girls from 1982-1992. Elizabeth was a great supporter of me as the Headteacher. She was pivotal in our Fundraising Campaign for the Dining Hall and Drama Studio and helped in raising funds from former staff and students. Elizabeth touched many peoples’ hearts, as she was dynamic and full of enthusiasm – a unique combination.
I owe her a great debt of gratitude for all her work at the High School for Girls over the years. It is a real privilege to walk in her footsteps.
Last Friday, 28th April the School held its Birthday Celebration at Gloucester Cathedral. The theme of the service was “the Spirit of the High School” and what this means. The service included students’ recollections from the 1930’s, 1980’s and 1990’s. It is interesting to note that visitors to the school often talk about the feel of the school. It is important that this spirit is kept alive for future generations, as reflected by several parents recently.
Year 13 Final Assembly
Year 13 entertained the staff and students on Tuesday in their last assembly. Students were successfully type cast in certain teachers’ roles. Certainly, the script and performances were very well written and entertaining. It is interesting to note what the students pick up on when it comes to staff. Well done, Year 13 for making us all laugh!
Year 11 Thorpe Park
Year 11 had a wonderful day a week ago at Thorpe Park. There were limited queues and as a result students had many rides. I thoroughly enjoyed their company. They were a pleasure to take away.
Sports Review Evening, Thursday, 11th May at 6.30 pm
Due to the fact that our speaker cannot now come on this evening we have had to postpone this event towards the end of Term 6. Unfortunately, due to the short notice we have not been able to find a replacement speaker. The school apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.
Song and Dance Evening on Thursday, 18th May at 7.00pm in the School Hall.
