House Drama, Sponsorship of the Houses, Dining Hall Extension, PTA Donation, Furniture for the Dining Hall, School Fund and Future Dates.
Last week students once again had the opportunity to complete a House event. This time it was House Drama. This event is clearly a tradition of the school and has been in existence since April 1933.
The Houses competed this year in a monologue, duologue and also part of a play.
The monologue section was won by Hartland.
The duologue by Hartland and Bearland.
The play by Mynd.
The competition was judged by a former student Lowri Amies, actor and playwright. Lowri also gave out extra prizes: for the scenery and staging to Hartland, costumes to Mynd and the comedy element to Mynd.
Highly commended awards for the duologue went to Annabel Rodrigues and Emilia Thomas. Characterisation awards were given to
• Camille Shermedine
• Rhian Pembridge
• Grace Towle
• Rukhsh Arif
• Sophie Ellis.
Congratulations go to all the prize winners, but also to all who took part in the event. Special thanks go to the House Captains and House Drama officials who prepared the students for the event and also to the English Department and especially Ms Hadfield for helping with rehearsals.
Sponsorship of the Houses
The five Houses are looking for sponsorship from companies to the tune of £250. This money will be used to buy props, material, music and trophies. In return the sponsors’ name and logo will be advertised at school events, in the newsletter and on our website.
So far Barwell has received sponsorship from Quickmach Engineering Ltd based at Staverton.
If any other company wishes to sponsor the other Houses can they please get in touch with Mrs Simpson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dining Hall Extension
This is going up very quickly and is a great addition to the school. The area will provide a great facility for the students, once complete, especially as the inclement weather begins.
I wish to record my thanks to the PTA for the sum of £5,000 towards the furnishings of the new dining hall. This means that we only need to raise another £8000 in order to be able to buy all the furniture.
Furniture for the Dining Hall
I wish to thank all the parents who have contributed money so far to the furniture fund. So far the school has received £453.00. If you would like to make a donation then please do so by either placing a standing order or by Parent Pay as indicated in my previous email.
The sooner the school has the money, the sooner the furniture will be ordered.
Please remember that it is your daughters and sons that will benefit directly from this wonderful addition to the school.
I am extremely grateful to all parents who have paid the School Fund so far. The money collected has been £1,140. I would be grateful if the School Fund could be paid before the end of next term. This can be paid monthly, termly or annually.
