It is official that girls at single-sex state schools in England get better GCSE results than those in mixed schools, according to an analysis of the most recent exams.  The high performance of girls in single-sex schools has been identified by education data analysts, SchoolDash, in a breakdown of GCSE results.

Sixth Form Information Evening 21st January 2016

This was a very well attended event and we hope that parents and students found it informative.  It was particularly pleasing to see so many High School students at the event.  If any Year 11 student/parent has any other queries about life in the High School Sixth Form then they must not hesitate to ask Mr Leathem-Pugh.  He can be emailed by parents on leathem-pughj@hsfg.org.

Hospital Education Service Evening

This event occurred on Monday, 25th January at the High School for Girls and saw the launch of a book that contained short stories written by young people who have had to avail themselves of the service.  The book was dedicated to Alisha Rajeev, our Year 7 student who sadly passed away last year.  We were delighted that Alisha's mother, sisters and extended family were able to be with us at the event.

During the evening some of our Year 11 Drama students presented their adaptation of two of the stories, 'One Busy Day' and 'Diary Entry - The Soldier'.  Their interpretations were excellent and were very much appreciated by the audience.  Musicians from 8W and 8Y also contributed musical items, as a tribute to their friend Alisha.  Their singing was very poignant and moving.

My thanks go to all the students who took part in the event and to Mrs Day and Miss Bartow who encouraged the students to take part.  As usual everyone was very impressed with our students.  They really are talented.  Some of the students, who wrote the short stories, also took part in the event by talking about their stories.  I was delighted that the Hospital Education Service decided to host the event at the High School for Girls.

Junior Concert

A spectacular event once again with so much musical talent on show.  Ashleigh Turley from the Milestones school decided that she so enjoyed performing last time that she wanted to play again.  What is remarkable about this young person is that she is such a talented musician despite being blind as a result of premature birth.  Everyone very much enjoyed her performance. 

The evening also consisted of excellent solo and group performances from our students.  Some arrangements were done by the students themselves.  The young people who performed are exceptionally talented and treated the audience to a wonderful evening of music.

​Reminder to Year 7 Parents/Carers

A reception is to be held on Wednesday, 10th February at 6.30 pm in our dining hall for Year 7 parents about the lack of dining room facilities for our students.  This is a continuation of the receptions held for parents of students in Years 8 - 13 last year.  I hope many parents can join us for this event.

Any other parent who was not able to come to the receptions last year is also welcome to attend.

Sporting News

Charlotte Russell in Year 9 won her first International Tennis title last week.  She won the doubles championship with a girl from Ireland.
