Student News

Congratulations to Raina Lele in Year 12 who recently won a competition offered by Exeter University.  Exeter University runs a project called IDEAL which works with dementia patients.  The brief of the competition was to create innovative ideas specific to dementia patients who have felt isolated during the pandemic.  Raina produced a fantastic array of ideas such as creating a recipe book and stitching demonstrations for patients which she presented to the competition panel.  The IDEAL project will now work with Raina to incorporate her ideas into their toolkit.  Raina also received a cash prize.

Anonymous Reporting ‘FLARE’

Gloucestershire Constabulary, with the support of Gloucestershire OPCC and in partnership with the Hollie Gazzard Trust and Panic Guard, the anonymous reporting app "FLARE" has been developed to capture incidents of on street harassment, stalking and sexual violence behaviours that are commonly experienced by women and girls in public spaces. Whilst ideally, we would want those who experience these types of crime to report to the Police, we know that a large number of incidents may go unreported.

The purpose of Flare, is to therefore capture what is not currently being reported and provide information and data to aid our understanding of where these incidents are taking place within our Public spaces, Education sectors, and nighttime economy venues across Gloucestershire. The data collected from the app will be used to make decisions around crime prevention, awareness raising activity and potential Police resourcing. The results of the data will allow us to work with our partners to reduce opportunity for offending and thus making the streets a safer place for everyone to use.

The App will make it clear throughout that it is an anonymous reporting tool for information gathering and if users wish to receive a direct response to their incident they will be encouraged to report to the Police or seek support from specialist agencies

Download the app here:  Flare App | Gloucestershire Constabulary

If you or your child ever has any concerns of this nature please report the matter to a member of the safeguarding team at school so that we can support your child as appropriate.

LRC news

December already-  How can that be?  The Library Prefect Elves will soon be busy, wrapping Mystery Loans for the holidays, the Tutor Group quiz is already under way and the poster of LRC Winter activities will be sent out to students later today.  I’m inviting students to read more, to recommend what they’ve enjoyed to other tutor groups, to use craft skills and to share favourite recipes over the holidays.  Please encourage your child to take part, as it’s a great way to earn some of those precious House Points.

The Book Club’s will reopen after December 8 for an order date of Friday January 21 2022, and here’s the link: https://shop.scholastic.co.uk/schools/denmark-road

Please remember NOT to tick the box which asks if you work at the school, as it means it’s more difficult for DRHS to receive the Scholastic Credit.  Many thanks for your support.

INCIDENT

We have been notified of an incident that took place in the Innsworth area of Gloucester on 30/11/21. It has been reported to the Police who believe it is a scam.

The incident which took place outside Innsworth Infant School involved two people who were wearing purple lanyards. They were asking parents to take part in a survey about a new school in the local area.  The parents were being offered a £5 reward for taking part in the survey and the couple were taking their email addresses.  The survey that was then emailed out to parents finished by asking parents to provide their bank details.

If you are approached outside of School and asked to participate in a Survey of this kind then please inform us by emailing office@denmarkroad.org.
