News from the LRC
National Tree Week
National Tree Week runs from 28 November to 6 December (https://treecouncil.org.uk/?q=node%2F41). In a year in which the devastating effects of climate change have been seen throughout the world, BBC Radio Gloucestershire is part of a local effort to replant 2020 specimens of our native tree species, specifically oak, beech and hazel (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3gSC23y0kmPRhzSVCH3ShH6/ourboretum).
I’ve collected pocketfuls of acorns and hazelnuts for this purpose and I’ve always wanted to grow a hawthorn tree from seed too, so perhaps it will happen this year!
The LRC holds a range of resources about wildlife and the environment – and as it’s still National Non-Fiction Month, a selection is included below. These are reservable by Click and Collect and count towards the DRHS Reading Marathon Challenge.
There are still many LRC books and textbooks on loan which were due back during last academic year. I have sent lists to tutor groups and visited some of the least responsive tutor groups in order to expedite this process. Where necessary, I am currently contacting parents and carers on SchoolComms to ask that you encourage your son or daughter to return or renew all overdue items to the LRC. If there is any problem with returning these school resources, eg they are lost or damaged, please have your son or daughter see me to sort out a solution. I appreciate your support with this matter.
I have opened our Scholastic Book Club page to new orders this month. It is open until December 10: https://shop.scholastic.co.uk/schools/denmark-road. Books are offered at a discounted price to parents and carers. The LRC benefits in that we receive credit to the value of 20% of orders which we can spend with Scholastic on resources for our students. Your books will be delivered to School. Thank you, as always, for your support.

How do I report a student absence?
Please email email@example.com or telephone the school on 01452 543335 and follow the automated message or before 8.30 am on the first and subsequent day of any absence.
A large number of items is lost each week within school. Please encourage your daughter/son to look after their own property (and seek to locate it rather than just buy a new one!) Whilst staff will make every effort to return named items to students it is the responsibility of all students to care for their possessions and seek to locate lost items. Students’ property is brought into school at their own risk.
School Closure Information
The information will also be available on the local radio station. Please also check the bus company websites for their up-to-date information:
