Children in Need - Non-Uniform Day
Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone who took part in the 'come as you are' non-uniform day for Children in Need.

Cleaning at the High School
We continue to do all that we can to ensure the school site is as clean and hygienic as it can be during the pandemic. We are working closely with The Glen Group who have our cleaning contract and Gloucestershire County Council who monitor the contract with us. In addition to the two in-house housekeepers we have employed, we have invested in a commercial mist fogger. This can sanitise a room in less than 30 seconds, as you can see Mr Walker demonstrating in the restaurant.

News from the LRC
Anti-Bullying Week
Anti-Bullying Week runs from 13-20 November. The LRC holds a variety of resources which deal with this very distressing problem. In recognition of National Non-Fiction Month, I have highlighted some of our well-being books below. All are reservable by Click and Collect and count towards the DRHS Reading Marathon Challenge
In addition, Gloucestershire Libraries have a number of reading lists, under their Reading Well and Shelf Help section:
https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/libraries/library-activities-and-services/health-and-well-being/.
Virtual Book Groups
Virtual book groups are all the rage this year. Teresa Joseph, Jaina Smith and Aayusha Bhattarai, who have continued their Library Prefect duties this year, are setting up a Year 7 and Year 8 virtual book group. They have had a fantastic response, with over 70 students expressing interest so far. We will be working out logistics this week. Mrs Shaw and I are recruiting a Year 9 reading and discussion group to choose our School’s nomination for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize - another opportunity to sample some engaging and varied non-fiction. The Year 12 Library Prefect Team are organising their activities. Last, but not least, Grace Bullows in Year 13 is continuing to run the Carnegie Readers who are now branching out with their reading, beyond the 2020 Carnegie shortlist. This week I am launching a new service to the Sixth Form students: Librarian Drop In sessions in the Sixth Form Centre. Students may make appointments to see me, or just drop in, to talk about research, EPQs, avoiding plagiarism, how to find resources, what to read next, and anything else which is LRC related. I will be available at the following times:
Year 12 - Period 2 on Tuesdays (10am to 11am) in the Independent Study Room next to SF4 upstairs.
Year 13 - Period 3 on Thursdays (11.30am to 12.30pm) in the Group Study Room on the ground floor.
Please remind your Sixth Form son or daughter about these. I am, of course, also available in the LRC for all students, but this is an opportunity for some time which is dedicated to Sixth Form student needs.

Change of Circumstances?
If your circumstances at home have changed (eg separated/divorced/re-married etc) or you have moved house, changed telephone number/email address please let us know asap by emailing office@denmarkroad.org so that our records are correct and that all our communications reach you.
Student Medical/Non-Medical Appointments – Forms
Parents/carers should fill out a medical form for all hospital, orthodontist and emergency doctor appointments. Regular doctors/dentist appointments should not be made during school hours. Non-medical forms should be filled in for holiday requests, music exams and any other non-medical reason. Both forms are available here. A week or more’s notice should be given if possible. Forms can be filled in and emailed to absence@denmarkroad.org
Collection of Students for Appointments
The school operates strict safeguarding procedures and takes responsibility for its duty of care for students seriously. Therefore, we would be extremely grateful if parents/carers would abide by the procedures set out for all students in the main school.
Any student, who needs to leave the school site during the day must be collected by a parent/carer or named individual for that student, from the MAIN RECEPTION. Students will need to sign out at the Well-being Centre and they will then meet their parent/carer in reception.
Please be aware that we cannot make any exceptions to this procedure for any student in Years 7-11.
Please make sure that we hold up-to-date details for your daughter/son. Please remember that only the contacts detailed on your daughter’s/son’s data sheet can collect them from school.
Please email office@denmarkroad.org with new telephone numbers or email addresses or log in to your School Gateway account to make changes.
Parents/carers are also requested not to park on the school grounds, or on yellow lines outside the school, when collecting child for appointments.
