Youth Parliament for Gloucester

Zafeera Karim in Year 9 is applying to be a Member of Youth Parliament for Gloucester and Forest of Dean constituency.  When you look at this video, you will see how confident she is and how easy she makes this look!

The voting, via text, will begin on 12 until 16 October.

Please take a look at the video of Zafeera.

Congratulations also to Neha Antony in 9BA who is also applying to be a Member of Youth Parliament for Gloucester.  Well done for showing such independence and maturity. I am impressed by such an initiative by students in Year 9.

News from the LRC

Royal Society’s Young People’s Book Prize 2020

This week, our school had an exciting delivery from the Royal Society in London. We have been selected to participate in choosing the winner of the Royal Society’s Young People’s Book Prize 2020.

We are now thinking about candidates for a team to read the books, discuss them and vote for which is the best.  This is the first time we have taken part and it makes a change to be considering what constitutes good non-fiction.

DRHS Reading Marathon Challenge

Our tally for 2020/21 so far now stands at 77 reviews – we are hoping that the upcoming half term will allow for even more reading and many more reviews.

LRC’s Click and Collect Service

The LRC’s Click and Collect Service is growing steadily, with students also coming to the LRC and emailing me about what they would like to borrow.  The LRC houses not only a wide range of fiction, but also non-fiction which improves their knowledge for studies, hobbies and interests.

If your daughter or son has any questions about authors, books, genres or how to find information, they can always email me or call in to the LRC and I will help them find what they need.
