Progress 8 Data, Phasing out German, Parents' Evening and Reporting and Water Advice
Dear Parents/Carers
Progress 8 Data
The High School for Girls is the highest performing girls’ school in Gloucestershire for the Progress 8 measurement at GCSE, which is the value added score at GCSE. Our Progress 8 is 0.46 which is above the national average and indicates that students perform half a grade higher at the High School than they do nationally.
This is a fantastic achievement. We are delighted to be recognised in government tables for this. Well done to all the staff and students for enabling us to achieve so highly!
Phasing out German
Thank you to all parents who responded to my email concerning German. I have responded to all emails received. If anyone has any further comments please let me know. Thank you to all parents for their understanding of why the decision has been necessary.
Parents’ Evening and Reporting
Thank you to all parents who sent in comments about parents’ evenings and reporting. Your comments have been discussed and improvements made concerning the spacing of parents’ evening and reporting. We have now devised and improved the calendar which we hope parents are pleased with. This information will be on the calendar once all dates have been entered.
Water Advice
Research at the University of East London and University of Westminster has shown that drinking just 300ml of water can boost teenagers’ attention by almost 25%. A similar study carried out in 2012 found that university foundation year students who took a bottle of water into the exam room scored 5% higher on average than those that didn’t. So please encourage your daughters and sons to drink as much water as possible.
With best wishes
